SEMINAR:
Lives of Contemplation and Protest Action
Parallels and Intersection

The Adult Education Committee of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is pleased to present Nancy Roberts, PhD, for a seminar focusing on Thomas Merton and Daniel Berrigan, two Catholic clerics who commented on social and moral issues of the 1950s and 1960s, to be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on September 8th from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Dr. Roberts, will highlight events in the lives of Merton and Berrigan to compare and contrast their spiritual development, especially how their spirituality led them to different life courses despite sharing similar views and thoughts on contemplation and action. We will reflect on poems by Merton and Berrigan that reveal the way these men “work through” their ideas during the stresses of their life choices and how the poems demonstrate another angle of their faith formation and action through creativity and insight.

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is located in Eugene at 13th and Pearl Streets. The public is welcome. Goodwill offering at the door. For information call (541) 343-9253.
